Money entry #2
I’m spending about $27/day in Thailand compared to $67 in Australia and New Zealand. SE Asia is a backpackers’ Mecca because everything’s so cheap. Here’s a list of some of the things I’ve bought and what they cost:
Private room with fan: $5/night
City bus across Bangkok: $.10
Flight from Bangkok to Phuket: $42
Full meal: $1.50-3
Half pineapple cut into bite-sized chunks: $.25
Hour message at most famous Thai message palace: $7.50
Half-hour internet in Bangkok: $.40
Half-hour internet in Phi Phi: $2.25
Phone call to US from major city: $.25/min
Phone call to US from small town: $.75/min
Airmail package to US: $7
MiniDV tapes: $3.25 each
Toilets that don’t use toilet paper and no hot water in showers: priceless

You might run into more of that in India, so I'm glad you've already encountered it :-P
And $7.50 for a happy ending isn't bad either.

Actually the ones with happy endings are even cheaper i think, though i honestly haven't gone there...best massage deal so far: Yesterday at Chiang Mai night market where my $1.50 half hour foot massage left my hands free to drink a $2 twenty-ounce Singha beer...massage plus beer equals enjoyment.
